Compute This--Tornado

Although tornadoes occur in many parts of the world, these destructive forces of nature are found most frequently in the United States east of the Rocky Mountains during the spring and summer months.

With the official state death toll now at 158, the recent May 22, 2011 tornado in Joplin, MO ranks 7th on the list of 25 deadliest tornados according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). For this activity students will be locating and graphing information about the top 5 deadliest U.S. tornadoes according to noaa.gov. They will also be answering some general information questions about tornadoes.

Students will use three different applications--an Internet browser, a word processor, and a spreadsheet program. This activity is based on the "Compute This" event in Science Olympiad.
