Exploring the Power of Music in Video

"In media the image gives us the information, while music tells us how to feel about it."  Author Unknown

Essential question: How does music manipulate a story or video?

View the following twisted versions of some well know movie trailers.

Example Two

Example Three

Your task:

Create your own "three movie" project.

Step 1:  Record 30 seconds of video content.  It can be from a) 30 seconds (the legal limit) of a well known movie, b) a 30-second conversation between a few people in class, or c) an original recording you've made of something potentially boring or ordinary, like traffic.

Step 2:  Add background music to make listeners feel three different ways about the dialogue or video footage:  creepy, sad, sentimental, happy, whatever.  You may use Garageband to create your music.

Sequence One               Sequence Two           Sequence Three

Bottom Line:  Music has great power to change and overtake a story if over used or over played.  Make sure your music adds to your story.  The other way around is a music video.
