What is the Motive?

--We will begin class today talking about the objectives for the class and what students hope to learn.
--Activity 1:  We will begin by looking at video genres, in particular the documentary.  We will answer the question, "What is a documentary?"  We will explore some of the motives behind documentary programs:

• to educate
• to inform
• to entertain
• for self-expression
• to persuade
• to make money

Finally students will be asked to come up with a concept for a documentary (topic to be determined) based on a specific role or purpose.
